More Than Rewards
It’s more than rewards. When I shop for groceries, I have options. I could go to the big store that’s a convenient stop on my drive home every day. Yes, it’s easy. But it’s huge, it’s crowded and I always have to wait. I never know where anything is, and the people are always hard to deal with. BUT, they have a cool loyalty card, and I can build up points for discounted gas. My kids can ride around in a grocery cart that looks like a racecar while I’m forcing myself to endure this torture. The other option is driving a little bit longer to a smaller store. They, too, have a loyalty card and the same carts for my kids. The difference here is the store and the people. It is a better experience. They call me by my name, things aren’t moved around constantly to be bigger and flashier, and the employees are friendly. They look and act like they care about their jobs, and care that I choose to shop there. The store itself is just as up to date, and state of the art, they sell the same products, and their pricing is about the same, but something is very different and abundantly clear in their mission.
The same can be said for the orthodontic practice. You’ve all heard it before, and I’m not spending this blog article on the subject of customer care. You know it’s important, and you know it can make or break you. We’ll discuss that more on another day. What I’d like you to think about is the rewards. Everyone has rewards systems in their practices today, and if you don’t, you should. However, if you are not separating the rewards from the experience for your youngest patients, you are making a mistake. It’s more than rewards! A well-developed Kids’ Club is more than simply handing your newest growth and development patient a slick rewards card with a pat on the back while saying “Welcome to the club,” as you run out the door to see your next patient. This is a big day! This is your only chance to wow this wide-eyed newbie with an excellent first impression of your practice. He/she may be disappointed that it’s not time for braces, and a simple rewards card is not the answer.
This special group of patients needs a reason to want to come back and see you and your team every six months for the next couple of years. Knock their socks off with a complete Kids’ Club welcome packet! Make it a huge moment in their lives. You’re different from everyone else in town, because not only do your new growth and development patients earn rewards, they are true members of a real club. These kids will be actively participating in your practice, not passively waiting around for braces. There IS a difference, and it can mean everything in building a loyal relationship. The buzz will build and pretty soon, all the kids on the soccer fields will also want to be in the club, and they are going to drive a little longer to come to YOUR practice.
